Calling all #YorkU artists! The Division of Students is seeking a talented student artist to design and paint the base of a community mural for York University’s Spirit Day! This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your artistic skills while contributing to a meaningful and interactive campus artwork. Project Details: The mural will celebrate York University’s motto, Tentanda Via – The Way Must Be Tried, through a large, bubbly-outlined text featuring this phrase. The design should incorporate elements reflecting York’s culture and community, such as the York U Lions, college emblems, and the university’s signature red color. Community participation is a key element of the mural! The selected artist will propose how members of the York community can contribute—either by adding thumbprints or handprints to the mural itself. The mural will be located in Vari Hall (one of the white walls between concrete pillars near VH 1016-1022). Although we currently do not have exact measurements of the wall space, we encourage you to visit the space to help you ideate your concept. Eligibility: - Open to all students and artists at York University. - The selected artist must be available to create the mural base (sketching and painting) between March 17 – March 26 - The community mural will be active for participation on Wednesday, March 26. The artist must be available for this day. Honorarium & Support: - The selected artist will receive a $500 honorarium (YU-Card credits or York U Bookstore gift card) - All painting materials for the base mural will be provided Submission Requirements: - A sketch or visual concept of your proposed mural design - A short artist statement explaining your vision and how it ties into Tentanda Via and the Spirit of York. - Your name, program, and year of study The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
